The Sex Discrimination Act was meant to revolutionise women's lives and bring about a new era of gender equality.

Nearly half of all female pensioners living on their own are below the poverty line. And women working today are still far less likely than men to have a decent pension to see them through their retirement. 

A fortunate few can afford to retire in style. After her husband's death Bea Muller caculated that the cost of living aboard the QE2 was the same as taking up residence in Florida, so that's exactly where the 82 year old decided to spend the rest of her days.
