Women's football

The Dick Kerr Ladies, an all woman football team was founded in 1917. The team drew crowds in excess of fifty thousand and became international soccer stars before the women's game was effectively banned by the Football Association in 1921. Fortunately times have changed and women's football is now the most popular female sport in England.
