When the husky-voiced Annie Nightingale took to the airwaves in 1970, she not only broke Radio1's all-male code, but also became the first woman DJ in Britain. The former convent girl went on to expand her role as a music broadcaster, presenter and journalist and for 4 years hosted the BBC's top ranking music show, The Old Grey Whistle Test.
