  Female spies 2 Nov 2005
Why are MI5 finding it so hard to recruit women?

Normally half of MI5's recruits are women, but the recent drop in the number of female applicants has led them to advertise in She and Cosmopolitan magazines.

So what is it really like in the world of espionage? And is it really the deaths of female spies in Spooks the BBC drama series that is putting women off?

Martha is joined by Harry Ferguson, a former MI6 agent, now turned writer, and Jenny Moule, who came second in the BBC competition series Spy, in the summer of 2004. Despite her apparent natural abilities as a spy, Jenny decided to withdraw her application to MI5.

Spy: A Handbook by Harry Ferguson, published by Bloomsbury - ISBN: 0747575231
