Women in Iraq 01 August 2005
What will the new constitution mean?

By Monday 1st August, the date for the completion of Iraq’s new constitution will be finalised. But with the deadline approaching, the role of women in society has become a political battlefield.

Religious groups want laws which some see as discriminating against women. Secular women fear that the new constitution will be a disaster - last week activists staged a demonstration in Baghdad.

So what will the new constitution mean for women in Iraq?
