  Mabel Normand 31 May 2005
The real woman behind the musical Mack and Mabel

Mabel Normand was a brilliant comedienne, a natural mimic and one of the most talented comic stars of the silent screen. She acted with and also directed the likes of Charlie Chaplin, as well as being the life and soul of the heavy party scene happening in those early Hollywood days.

Her on-screen character and public persona were often blurred, so when she was involved in several scandals, her reputation was tarnished and her popularity waned. But her fame was revived by the hit musical Mack and Mabel,

Jenni finds out about the real Mabel.

Mack and Mabel is on at the Watermill Theatre, Bangor, Newbury in Berkshire from 18 May until 9 July 2005.
