  Meg Cabot 8 October 2004
On the success of her Princess Diaries series for teen girls

The Princess Diaries is the teen publishing success of the last five years, with over five million copies of the tales of reluctant New York high school princess Mia Thermopolis sold worldwide.

This month sees the sixth book of the series and the second film released in the UK. Their author Meg discusses why the books are so successful and, together with historian Annie Watkins, talks about what it is that teenage girls like to read and why.

Woman's Hour asks a Watershed fiction reading group in Penzance and Plymouth about the novels that affected their lives when teenagers.

Annie Watkins gives an update on the Women's watershed fiction longlist.
