  Fathers' grief 3 September 2004
Do we offer enough support to bereaved fathers?

Mario Di Clemente's son Leo was born in 2003 and lived for a single day before he died because of complications at his birth. Mario's grief took the form of a series of letters to his son, one for each month of the first year after Leo's birth and death, as he struggled to come to terms with the loss.

The letters have now been published as part of a book about Leo's death, after Mario realised that there was very little information aimed specifically at fathers whose young children have died.

Martha  talks to Mario about his son and to bereavement sociologist Gordon Riches about whether fathers' grief is given enough recognition when a baby or young child dies.

Mario Di Clemente's book Living with Leo is available from Bosun-Publications, ISBN 0954693205
