When a woman got beyond a certain age, she was expected to tear up her heart throb posters.

Now more and more mature women are going to gigs. So are you ever too old to be a fan?

The 80s pop group Duran Duran are currently on a UK comeback tour and music critics have reported seeing mature women screaming at their idols.

Martha asks Guardian rock critic Alexis Petridis and Rolling Stones fan, Joan Burnie, whether we're seeing the first consumer generation simply carrying on the habits of a lifetime. Meanwhile, older Duran Duran fans talk about their reasons for continuing to swoon over Simon Le Bon.
