The British presence among the ranks of Winter Olympic Gold contenders in Salt Lake City is not exactly overwhelming. Not even on the ice, where we have been known to shine in the past.

But at amateur level, there's lots of enthusiasm, particularly among women and especially in the fifty plus age group. Philippa Budgen went to London's Alexandra palace to meet some of the late starters.
