  Homestart 09 January 2004
Image: Mother and child
As any new parent will tell you, having kids isn't easy. They don't come with an instruction manual and especially these days when we're less likely to live near our own families, parents can feel isolated and desperate for some sort of helping hand.

Homestart is a charity that provides just that. It has just celebrated its thirtieth birthday and has grown from one initial project in Leicester to more than three hundred schemes throughout the UK.

Judi Herman went to South London to meet Homestart's founder, Margaret Harrison and talk to Moira, her son James and volunteer Sandra.

To find out more phone Homestart freephone 08000 686368 (staffed 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings)
