Beatrix Potter's Squirrel Nutkin Thursday 3 April 2003
Image: Centenary of Beatrix Potter's Squirrel Nutkin
It's a hundred years this week since the publication of Beatrix Potter's Tale of Squirrel Nutkin.

Like so many of her characters, Nutkin first took shape in a letter to one of her many child correspondents.
Judy Merry went to Cumbria, where Potter lived, to find how the landscape and local wildlife inspired her imaginiation. And she found that not everybody thinks her stories are as sweet as they might seem.
