  Aztec Women Thursday 21 November 2002  
Over 650 years ago the Aztec people created a civilisation of amazing sophistication, splendour and power.

As a major new exhibition opens at the Royal Academy this week, we look at the role of women in Aztec society, the influence of their female deities and the many evocative images left behind.
The Aztecs is at The Royal Academy of Arts until 11th April 2003
