The writer Thomas Hardy died 80 years ago yet his novels are still as popular as ever. Many of them feature strong female characters, and one of his earliest – Far From the Madding Crowd, written in 1874 – is no exception. This autumn Woman's Hour has been discovering the Wessex landscapes where Hardy set his novels and the places in which his female characters might have walked. Our reporter Fiona Clampin and Dr Angelique Richardson from Exeter University met guide Sue Clarke from the Hardy Society on the old road towards Puddletown.
