The politics of abortion 14 Jul 2008
Amendments and delays to Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill

The Bill has sparked controversy and passionate debate about embryo research, IVF and abortion. It was due to return to the Commons for its final stages before the summer recess with a large number of new amendments. However, the Bill has now been held over until the autumn. So what is the state of the current debate on abortion? What do these new amendments mean and which, if any, are likely to pass when the Bill returns? Jane hears from BBC political correspondent Laura Kuenssberg and talks to Nadine Dorries MP and to Evan Harris MP who are both seeking changes to the abortion law.
