 Is there an overlooked tradition of conservative feminism?
Being a feminist has often been associated with being a bit of a lefty. For some, the word ‘feminism’ conjures up images of radical protest, from the demonstrations in the '60s to the women’s peace camp at Greenham Common in the ‘80s. However, in the year that we celebrate the ninetieth anniversary of the first British women getting the vote, a new book has been published which charts the contribution made by Conservatives to women's suffrage.
So, is there an overlooked tradition of conservative feminism? Or, do you have to be more subversive to be a feminist? Jenni talks to Bea Campbell, journalist, author and campaigner, and to Louise Bagshawe, novelist and Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Corby and East Northamptonshire.
