Kosovo: Coming to Britain 8 Years On 27 Sept 2007
From Kosovo to Sheffield: The Refugee Turned Medic

In the 1990’s thousands of Kosovan refugees came to Britain, fleeing the conflict in their own country - NATO eventually intervened to stop the Serbs from persecuting Kosovan Albanians. The area is now administered by the UN but it’s still part of Serbia. The issue of its independence is ongoing, and talks happening at the moment between the Kosovan and Serb leadership are hoping to help settle the issue. One of those who came to Britain is Blerta. She was just 18 when she arrived. With very little English she made a life here, and is about to start medical school. Back in 1999 she spoke to Kate Betts, and now eight year’s on Kate went to meet her again to see how she’s getting on.
