In the 1820’s Charles Mackintosh opened a factory in Manchester to produce a garment that would forever be associated with his name – the Mac. Since its creation, it’s slipped in and out of fashion and undergone numerous variations on the theme – from gaberdines, to cagoules, to pac-a-macs. And now, the heavily cinched trenchcoat is the chic ‘in’ look for rainy days, but how many women can really wear them with style? Woman’s Hour explores the history, and the latest fashion in rainwear. Jenni is joined by dress historian Anthea Jarvis and fashion writer Julia Robson. |
