Cabaret Mechanical Theatre 20 Apr 2007
Manet's Olympia
If you have ever visited the Cabaret Mechanical Theatre in Covent Garden you will remember the fascinating machines [automata] that came to life at the touch of a button. What started as a shop in Falmouth in 1979, moved to Covent Garden in 1984 where it stayed for 15 years. A retrospective of the collection is currently at the Kinetica gallery in London and while the majority of the artists are men, three generations of visionary women make up the company. Victoria Hannaford meets mother-and-daughter curating team - Sue Jackson and Sarah Alexander - along with Sarah’s daughter - Max - who maintains the collection and installs exhibitions in the Far East.

The exhibition at Kinetica in Spitalfields Market in London, runs until May 7.
