Congenital Heart Disease 08 May 2009
Rebecca Goss
Poet Rebecca Goss talks about the death of her daughter Ella at the age of 16 months from a congenital heart defect.

On the 5th August last year, Ella Bennett died at the age of 16 months from congenital heart disease. Diagnosed with the condition at just 36 hours, Ella was not expected to make it through the night but after two weeks in Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s hospital, her parents took her home. At 14 months, Ella’s health began to deteriorate and she died a week before her paediatric cardiologist had planned to operate on her heart. Ella’s mother, the poet Rebecca Goss, talks to Jenni about her daughter and reads some of the poetry she has written as a tribute to her little girl. They are also joined by Anne Keatley-Clarke, Chief Executive of the Children’s Heart Federation.

he Radio 4 Appeal on Sunday, 10th May is for the Children’s Heart Federation.
