Controversial ministers join Pakistan cabinet 25 November 2008
Pakistan Parliament building, Islamabad
What implications might this have for Pakistani women?

Two politicians accused of brutal attitudes towards women have been made cabinet ministers in Pakistan. The appointments have caused outrage among human rights activists and women’s groups. One minister has been reported to have presided over a “jirga” which gave away five young girls as a form of compensation, and the other to have defended the burying alive of three young women in 'honour killings'. Jane talks to the BBC‘s Pakistan Correspondent Barbara Plett about their appointment and what this could mean for women.
