Violence against women in Australia 11 August 2008
The challenges for real change

Since the Rudd government came into power in Australia last November, violence against women has become a hot topic on the political agenda. A new National Council on Violence Against Women and Children has been set-up and Australian Attorney-Generals have been cheered for joining the Government’s White Ribbon Campaign against the plight. With one in three women suffering violence in this industrialised country, Jenni will be joined by Kate Gilmore, Executive Deputy Secretary General of Amnesty International and Moira Carmody, Associate Professor of Social Justice and Social Change at the University of Western Sydney to discuss the cultural and structural causes of this problem and the challenges that lie ahead.
