A strategy to end violence against women? 1 Apr 2008
Wycombe Rape Crisis Campaigners
Is the Government doing enough to support victims of violence?

The End Violence Against Women Coalition has said in its annual report that that too much of the government’s progress on dealing with violence against women, remains limited to pilot projects with short term funding. They say this dislocation at the top of government is reflected in fractured services on the ground. The number of rape crisis centres has nearly halved in the last two decades. Some of these specialist centres face closure, but the Government has just stepped in with £1 million of emergency funding. So, is this a short term reprieve or the beginning of a more co-ordinated approach to dealing with violence against women?

Jenni talks to Harriet Harman, Minister for Women and Equalities, Dr Nicole Westmarland, Chair of Rape Crisis and Criminologist at Durham University and Liz Kelly, Chair of the End Violence Against Women Campaign.
