Do the under-fives need a national curriculum?

A national curriculum for the under-fives is to be introduced from September 2008 but a number of educational experts are campaigning against it, despite the Government emphasising that the Early Years Foundation Stage will focus on 'learning through play'. Jenni is joined by Beverley Hughes MP, the Minister for Children and Dr Penelope Leach who’s concerned that plans to monitor toddler’s literacy and numeracy will mean the end of free play for children.
