The ethics of involving children in parenting programmes

Channel 4’s recent series Bringing Up Baby caused controversy when it featured the strict baby care routine advocated by maternity expert Claire Verity. Following a record number of complaints to the NSPCC, the children’s charity has called for tougher Ofcom guidelines regarding the participation of children in television programmes.

Jane is joined by Eileen Hayes, Parental Advisor at the NSPCC and Chair of the Media and Parenting Group, and Hamish Mykura, the Channel 4 Commissioning Editor responsible for Bringing Up Baby, to discuss children’s participation in parenting programmes.
