Noel Coward
His forgotten play: "The Better Half"

A forgotten play by Noel Coward has just been found in an archive where it has languished for over 80 years. The Better Half tells the story of a love triangle between a man and two women and the script is heavily marked with the blue ink of the theatrical sensor who gave the play a licence for performance even though he thought it was rather ‘risky’ – Coward had dared to suggest that women have a sex drive. Woman’s Hour takes a look at this newly discovered play and reveals the strong, sexy female characters that dominated both the life and work of Noel Coward.

‘The Better Half’ is being performed by The Sticking Place theatre company at the Union Theatre in Southwark from 16th October - November 10th.

‘Blue Harbour Revisited: A Gift from Noel Coward’ by Elizabeth Sharland is published by iUniverse.com. ISBN 10 0595452841
