Women’s Arts International Festival 15 May 07
Jasmin Vardimon.
The first Women’s Arts International Festival is taking place in Kendal in Cumbria this month, celebrating all that women artists have achieved over the past few decades. It also looks ahead at the artists at the beginning of their careers who are set to be the role models of the future. The organisers have drawn in some big names for the 3 week run, such as Patti Smith, Marianne Faithful, Prue Leith and Germaine Greer. There are 2 artistic directors behind this project, Linda Graham and Sam Mason. Reporter Ruth Barnes spoke first to Sam and asked him why he wanted to organise a women’s arts festival and why he chose Kendal?
