Marina Nemat - Prisoner of Tehran 18 May 2007
At the age of 16 Iranian Marina Nemat was locked up in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison. She had spoken out against the Ayatollah Khomeini’s regime, which had swept to power during the country’s revolution in 1979. After interrogation and torture she was facing execution by firing squad but minutes from death she was saved by a prison guard. His assistance came with a heavy price tag and Marina tells Jane her story of surviving persecution, forced marriage and the Iran-Iraq war.

Prisoner of Tehran by Marina Nemat is published by John Murray -  ISBN: 9 780719562501
