100 Years of Montessori Education. 19 Jan 2007
This month marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the first Montessori school. In 1907 Dr Maria Montessori started a school in the slums of Rome and began what soon became a global education movement. There are now more than 22,000 Montessori schools, with around 750 in the UK. At the start of the 21st century, how relevant is Montessori education for children today? Martha Kearney discusses this with Lynne Lawrence, director of training and schools at the Maria Montessori Institute A.M.I. in London and Liz Brooker of the Institute of Educatiion.
