Manic depression, also known as bipolar affective disorder, causes extreme highs and lows in a sufferer's mood and can severely affect their ability to function. So, what is it like living with the illness on a day to day basis? How do everyday relationships with friends and family fare? And are there ways to minimise its interference.
Jenni talks to Karen Cowen, a psychologist with first hand experience as the daughter of a manic depressive, and to mother and daughter, Jean and Suzy Johnston, about how Suzy's bipolar diagnosis affected their relationship.
