Entertaining the troops: What makes a forces' sweetheart? 08 Jun 2006
Jenny Murray with Iestyn Edwards in the BBC Manchester studio
Madam Galina has recently returned from entertaining the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. A fifteen stone ballerina she is in fact a man.

Comic Iestyn Edwards walked on stage in front of hundreds of soldiers, not knowing quite what to expect. In the end he was a great favourite. Following in the foot steps of Gracie Fields and Vera Lynn we look at the changing face of forces' entertainment ... and what makes a forces' sweetheart today.

Jenni talks to Iestyn Edwards, Nikki Ness, Director of Entertainment for SSVC which is the organisation providing entertainment for the troops and Terry Charman, Historian at the Imperial War Museum.
