Julie Welch on one of her hundred mile walks
Walking 100 miles in 48 hours

Once a year a group of people set out on the annual "Hundred" - walking 100 miles non-stop, within 48 hours, watching the sun come up twice. Julie Welch used to edit the Long Distance Walkers Association magazine and after becoming intrigued, she decided to the tackle the annual Hundred herself and write a book about it.  Jane meets Julie to ask why a highly regarded sports journalist chose to put herself through such a gruelling endurance walk.

Out on Your Feet: The Hallucinatory World of Hundred-Mile Walking by Julie Welch. Published by Aurum Press ISBN 978 184513 427 3
