 Alone in a crowd
Most of us know what it is to feel lonely occasionally. But many others feel utterly overwhelmed by loneliness all of the time. This can be for a variety of reasons: the death of a loved one, mental health problems or the onset of illness. And it’s by no means just older people who feel it.
To discuss the issue of loneliness Jenni is joined by Dr Pamela Qualter, a developmental psychologist from the University of Central Lancashire, and Wendy Perriam, a writer, whose latest collection of short stories, “The Queen’s Margarine”, deals with themes of loneliness, a subject that’s close to her heart.
We also hear from visitors to an open cafe session in Oxford, run by the charity, The Archway Foundation.
