Baby-led Weaning 28th April 2009

Are purees pointless?

Any parent knows how mealtimes can become a battleground from a very early age, even from the start of the weaning process. Advocates of “baby-led weaning” claim that if you let your baby chose what to eat from a family’s normal meals and allow them to feed themselves from the outset, you take the stress out of feeding. So does it really work, and if it is so straightforward why don’t more parents adopt this approach over the puree and spoon? Jane discusses the pros and cons of baby-led weaning with Tracey Murkett one of the authors of “Baby-led Weaning” and Judy More a Paediatric Dietitian and member of the British Dietetic Association.

“Baby-led Weaning: Helping your baby to love good food” is published by Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett is published by Vermilion ISBN-13: 978-0091923808
