White House Children 10 Nov 2008
Growing up in the world’s spotlight

Malia aged 10, and Sasha aged 7, will become part of an elite band of children who have counted 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as their home. They will be the youngest children in the White House since nine year old Amy Carter in 1977. What will childhood be like for Obama’s children in the glare of the world’s media? How have other children from Caroline Kennedy to Chelsea Clinton coped in the public spotlight and how do their experiences compare to the children of Downing Street? Jane is joined by Jay Kleinberg, Professor of American Studies at Brunel University and journalist Fiona Millar who worked in Downing Street.
