Fire Minister Parmjit Dhanda has recently announced new measures to change the face of the Fire Service over the next ten years and ensure it fully reflects the communities it serves. This includes the toughest ever recruitment targets for women, who currently only make up 3.1% of firefighters. But targets have been set and missed before, and with a new survey suggesting that women don’t have adequate facilities or clothing to do the job, what can be done to encourage them to join?
