Rape Crisis Centres are under threat of closure as funding is cut.
Up to half of all Rape Crisis centres say they’re being forced to close or severely cut back their services because of lack of funding. This latest cutback is part of a trend which has seen the number of Rape Crisis centres fall from more than 80 to just over 30 in the last 20 years. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations is blaming the latest difficulties on failings in the way in which the Government administers the ‘Victims Fund’ and says there’s been a “serious breach” of the agreement between the Government and the voluntary sector. Jenni will be talking to the Chair of Rape Crisis – Dr Nicole Westmarland and to Maria Eagle M.P. – the Government Minister who’s responsible for the Victims Fund.
