India's New Child Labour Laws 23 Aug 2006
It's estimated that there are 12.5 million children working in India. Most are sent away from rural areas to the cities, by poor parents and families desperate to bolster their incomes. But the Indian government has just announced that it is changing the law on child labour - outlawing children under the age of 14 from working in domestic and hotel work.

Jane Little is joined by Asha Iyer, Director for Save The Children UK in West Bengal and Harjot Kaur, National Director of child Labour Issues, Ministry of Labour and Employment. They consider what impact, if any, this legislation is likely to have for child labourers, and how India can change the culture of child domestic labour.
