Andrea - Queen of the Mantas 11 Nov 2009
Filming the giant Manta Rays
Dr Marshall on discovering a new type of manta ray

Dr Andrea Marshall was a little-known PhD student researching the manta rays in Mozambique when she made a discovery in July 2008 - a new species of manta ray. At over 7 metres wide, the giant manta is the largest animal to be discovered in the last 50 years. Andrea’s research was the first ever doctoral thesis to be completed on mantas and has been deemed an astonishing breakthrough, with her results redefining the species.Andrea joins Jenni to discuss what first sparked her interest in mantas, the significance of her work, as well as the threats faced by manta rays.

Andrea: Queen of the Mantas, will be broadcast on 11th November at 8pm on BBC 2.
