Alison Balsom 8 Sept 2009
Alison Balsom
The trumpeter shaking up the classical music world

Earlier this year, the highly acclaimed trumpeter Alison Balsom became the first Briton to be crowned "Female Artist of the Year" at the Classical BRIT awards. A former Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Alison is the only female trumpeter signed to a major record label and is seen as shaking up the world of classical music, bringing a new sense of glamour, youth and accessibility not only for the trumpet, but also to the scene itself. Alison joins Jane to discuss her success and how she is preparing for her upcoming performances at the Last Night of the Proms.
Last Night of the Proms on Saturday 12 September at the Royal Albert Hall
