How safe is it to ride a bike? Are women cyclists more vulnerable?

Nowadays we’re being encouraged to get on our bikes. But just how safe is it? Far fewer women than men cycle and the main reason given is they don’t feel the roads are safe enough.  However, iIn London this year seven cyclists have been killed by HGVs and six of them were female. Are women particularly at risk? And what should be done to make cycling safer?  Jenni Murray is joined by Cynthia Barlow, chair of the charity RoadPeace whose daughter was killed by an HGV while cycling in London, and by Detective Inspector Jo Oakley, head of the Metropolitan Police Service Collision Investigation Unit.
