Anthony Browne has been writing and illustrating his own picture books for over thirty years and has nearly 40 titles to his name. Yesterday he became the sixth Children's Laureate - the first illustrator to hold the post since Quentin Blake. He creates strongly narrative watercolours that blend near-photographic realism with surreal touches and ingenious visual puns. Anthony says that he tries to put as much into his books as he can so that children, and adults, find something new every time they go back to one of his stories. He joins Jenni to talk about his work and about his passion for children’s literature, and picture books in particular.
