Should all children’s details be held on a national database?
The government is proposing to launch a new children’s database under the name of ContactPoint. Nine pilot schemes have already tested the system but critics have been quick to highlight security concerns given a flurry of sensitive data losses from other government departments in recent months. Many claim that ContactPoint is an unacceptable intrusion into children’s human rights but others argue that we must embrace the new database if we are serious about preventing another case of Victoria Climbie ever happening again.
