Launch of the Woman's Hour Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2nd Oct 2007
Breast Cancer Season
Is breast cancer on the increase?

Breast cancer affects one woman in nine during her lifetime, and the incidence of breast cancer has risen by over 20% during the last ten years. So what are the most common risk factors for developing breast cancer, and why has the number of women with breast cancer increased?

The good news is that rates of survival are improving, but Britain is still lagging behind many countries in Europe in this respect: British patients fare little better than those in Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic - where health spending is two thirds lower. How could Britain improve its survival rates still further?
