Christa Paffgen was a German model and singer who became immortalised as Nico – singer with the Velvet Underground on their first album. She was part of the group revolving around Andy Warhol and mixed with some of the period’s greatest musicians and artists. Living with a drug habit, she eventually moved to Manchester. A new play about her life is premiering next week.
'Nico Icon Play' by Stella Grundy is on at Studio Salford from 5th - 8th September.
