Weekdays 6-9am and Saturdays 7-9am How to listen to Today
Your chance to Edit the Today Programme

Listener Editors 2007

Last week we invited teams of listeners to apply to 'guest edit' an edition of this programme. We received over 200 applications so thank you to everyone who took the trouble to put together a pitch. We've read them all and many would have led to interesting and entertaining programmes. But one team had to triumph and, this year, it's a group of people working for the Dyfed-Powys Police

Their programme will be our New Year's Day edition.

The team are:

Listener Editors 2007, Inspector Richard Lewis, Samantha Gainard, Chief Superintendent Paul Amphlett.

Chief Superintendent Paul Amphlett (right)

Here's a sample of their winning proposal:

"Our team would like to explore the current issues that touch upon the work of the police service.

So many aspects of our work, and that of our partner agencies, appear as independent news items on various programmes on television and radio from the strategic to the local: detention of terrorist suspects, knife crime, police use of firearms, anti-social behaviour, child protection, the list goes on.

Although dealt with predominantly by the police service all of these issues touch upon the work of so many others. We would look to encourage a debate around a new way of looking at these issues away from the floor of the House of Commons and onto the streets of Britain.
"

The team will soon start work on their programme.
