Dogs of stage and screen

The Palm Dog awards are being held in Cannes to honour the greatest canine film performances of the last year.

With long hours and tough training programmes, being an on screen hound is no easy task, but if you succeed you receive public adoration most film stars can only dream of.

Toto

Terry, a Cairn Terrier, starred in 10 Hollywood films, most famously as Toto in The Wizard of Oz (1939). For this role she was paid $125 a week, more than many of the human actors in the film.
