Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is already giving us the ability to have very sophisticated conversations with our computers.

Rollo Carpenter recently won the Loebner prize, a competition for producing human like computer programmes known as chatbots.

And how about a machine that is able to learn from its environment in the same way as a human baby. That's Lucy, the invention of Steve Grand OBE.

Both discuss the extent to which artificial intelligence is beginning to enter our everyday lives.

The Scientific Image

The Visions of Science photographic award winners were announced this week.

The beautiful images show that science can also be art. But what makes a good scientific image and does it matter if the image is doctored?

Quentin talks to Bob Bodman, competition judge and picture editor for the Daily Telegraph and Seymour Yang, features manager for the Science Photo Library.
