Brownfield sites of disused quarries, railway sidings, old factory sites or scraps of overgrown waste ground have always been valued by conservationists for their wildlife.
They're also where many of us built dens as children, walk our dogs or take exercise. But with building land at a premium in urban areas, they are now under threat as never before.
Lionel Kelleway hosts a discussion with leading thinkers on the future of these neglected habitats. The contributors are wildlife campaigner Chris Baines, Head of Planning for the Campaign to Protect Rural England, Henry Oliver, and Euan Hall, Executive Director of the Land Restoration Trust. He also heads to Essex to discover the rare and wonderful wildlife that truly thrives on neglect.
