 | | | | Lionel Kelleway and Nick Darke search for sea beans on the beach at Porthcothan | The Gulf Stream
In this week’s Nature, Lionel Kelleway goes to Cornwall to discover some tangible evidence of the Gulf Stream, and what it brings to our shores. He explores where the Stream comes from, and where it goes, and how it influences our weather. Lionel also looks for an answer to the biggest question hanging over that River in the Ocean: are we really in danger of switching it off through Global Warming, and plunging ourselves into a mini ice-age?
In the course of the programme, Lionel talks to experts from Scotland to Plymouth, as well as from the other side of the Atlantic. The BBC's own meteorologist Peter Gibbs gives an assesment of what we owe to that River in the Ocean, and where we might be without it.
